No matter what I did to the previous theme it didn't want to behave. So I went looking for other themes. I like this one pretty well but I'll probably alter it once I get my new site logo finished.

The theme also looks a little crowded to me. Let me know your thoughts.

Admittedly I have not tried either SCILAB or Scicos. I had not even heard of Scicos. I keep meaning to try SCILAB and keep forgetting. For anyone else that is interested here is the link to SCILAB's ver. 5 download page

http://www.scilab.org/download/

I worked on Guidance, Navigation and Control for the International Space Station and before I started working there the original source code much of the controller flight software was created using MatrixX's auto-code generation. Most the older guys who remembered MatrixX, didn't remember it that fondly. Also the story I'd gotten from them was that Mathworks had bought MatrixX and killed it.

I'm sorry it doesn't show up correctly. I know the blog doesn't display correctly in the latest versions (as of Sept. 2008) of Firefox, Opera, or Chrome. This is a recent development and I'm not happy about it. The footer appears to melding into the sidebar. The header shows up fine and everything below the bottom of the sidebar shows up fine. The stuff in between - like the most recent post - does not.

I'll fix it as soon as I can. I welcome any help.

1) Have you checked out SCILAB and Scicos as alternatives to Matlab/Simulink?

2) Are you familiar with the sale of ISI's MatrixX to the Mathworks; their attempt to kill it; the legal actions requiring them to sell it; National Instruments purchase of MatrixX and then sitting on it for 10 years as they try to convert customers to Labview?

3) For Corporations, the price of Matlab is reasonable. For single person consultants, the prices is tough to justify unless I specialize in it and thus become a advocate for the Mathworks. If I'm a generalist, I can't justify the annual software license renewal for a tool I might only use once ever 3 years.

4) Do you know this blog doesn't display in the Firefox web browser? The background is gray and the text is grey and you can't read it without selecting the text to highlight it.

I got ganged up on as well by guys who definitely had a "shoot first, ask questions later" attitude. Initially they removed 3 links. Then I discussed their removal with the user who removed the links. Initially I was only trying to figure out how I could add link without violating the link policy. Less then a day after these discussions almost all of my edits had been removed.

Now that I'm a couple of weeks removed there are two things that really get under my skin. First, I was completely honest about my association to ControlTheoryPro.com. Had I been less so the discussion would have been different and most of my links probably would have survived. Second, if my website had a more restrictive license/copyright I would have had a perfectly valid justification for posting the links - so long as I lied about my founding ControlTheoryPro.com.

Think the aggressive users wanted me to post links through a sockpuppet for a site with a more restrictive license? I haven't done this but I doubt this is an outcome they desire.

I couldn't agree more about this. I've had whole sections deleted with surprisingly little reason, although talking to the administrators who do the deleting they apply a "shoot first ask questions later" approach. I have a website similar to yours and once I posted a link to it I get the feeling I was blacklisted for a lot of my other contributions. I did feel that after I contested material that I contributed not to be deleted that I was ganged up upon a bit in the resulting "talk" about my contributions. I will definitely be using it as a reference, but doubt if I will be contributing to it much again, I lost a lot of time on it!!
